Reflecting on the Pioneering Discussions at the Organoid Developer Conference 2024

A Milestone in Precision Oncology: Insights from the Organoid Developer Conference

As part of SISP continued commitment to advancing precision medicine for cancer patients, Dr.Somponnat had the privilege of attending the esteemed Organoid Developer Conference 2024 on April 26, co-hosted by Vinmec and VOS Discovery. The conference, held in the innovative surroundings of Vinmec Times City International Clinic in Hanoi, proved to be a pivotal event that showcased the latest advancements and discussed the future of organoid technology in cancer research.

The Power of Phenotype-based Precision Oncology

During the conference, Dr.Somponnat had the opportunity to deliver a talk on the significance of phenotype-based precision oncology, especially for the 80% of patients who are yet to benefit from biomarker (genomics)-based drug selection. SiSP's tumoroid program was a central point of discussion, demonstrating a live biobank encompassing various cancers such as ovarian, breast, colorectal, pancreatic, and cholangiocarcinoma.

The live biobank represents our stride towards a more dynamic approach in cancer treatment, moving beyond the static genetic snapshots to a more fluid understanding of the disease. It was an honor to share SiSP progress and the milestones we've achieved with our innovative tumoroid program.

Innovations and Considerations in Tumoroid Culturing

A crucial aspect of Dr.Somponnat’s presentation focused on the technical and practical considerations necessary for improving tumoroid culturing conditions. From discussing the sourcing of tumor specimens to the utilization of frozen tissue for organoid formation, the conversation delved into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to cultivate a successful and viable organoid model.

Predicting Treatment Responses with Patient-derived Tumoroids

Highlighting the translational impact of our work, he also showcased some compelling data on the use of patient-derived tumoroids from lung cancer. These models have been instrumental in predicting responses to various treatment regimens, both as monotherapy and in combination, marking a significant leap forward in personalized treatment strategies.

A Visit to the Vinmec Hi-Tech Center

The conference experience was further enriched by a visit to the Hi-Tech Center of the Vinmec Healthcare System. This state-of-the-art facility, adhering to GMP compliance, is at the forefront of cell-based therapy, embodying the cutting-edge infrastructure that supports the future of medicine.

Looking Forward

The Organoid Developer Conference 2024 was not just a gathering of minds but a convergence of hope, dedication, and innovation towards a future where precision medicine becomes the norm, not the exception. Our discussions and shared knowledge have propelled us to continue our pursuit of excellence, ensuring that our research and development efforts align seamlessly with the real-world needs of cancer patients.

The conference served as a resounding affirmation of our mission at SiSP: to relentlessly push the boundaries of science for the betterment of patient outcomes. Our journey continues, inspired by the collaborations and insights gained from this landmark event.
